Atlanta Braves Morning Chop: Weekend Takeaways, Sarasota
Two Games, Nobody Got Hurt
No known injuries. That’s probably the #1 thing from the weekend’s action against the Blue Jays and Astros, but there’s a few other tidbits of note for Braves’ fans:
1. The kids may not make decisions easy.
- Dustin Peterson. 3 for 5 with a run scored
- Ronald Acuna. 2 for 2 on Sunday with a run scored.
- Johan Camargo. 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored.
- Anthony Recker. 1 for 1 with 2 RBI (though at 33, he’s hardly a “kid”)
- Christian Walker. Got into camp and immediately went 1 for 2 with an RBI.
2. There were some slow starts, too:
- Jace Peterson. 1 for 6 with 2 K
- Travis Demeritte. 0 for 3, K
- Chase d’Arnaud and Micah Johnson. both 0 for 4, K
- Nick Markakis. 0 for 4, 2K – both in the Blue Jays’ game
3. Meanwhile, Freddie Freeman is probably ready to don his Team Canada colors now: 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.
4. And in case you missed the stylin’ double combination coming to a SunTrust Park near you… here it is… looking like they’ve done this since high school:
They didn’t even make us wait… this came in the first inning of Saturday’s game!
Pitching
So 2 games and the Braves have already rolled twelve pitchers out for early Spring work.

Bartolo Colon looked like… Bartolo Colon. Julio Teheran looked like he’s ready to get the season going: 2 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 K, 1 HBP (barely).
Aaron Blair had a shaky first inning, but better second – 3 hits and a pair of walks allowed, though 3 strikeouts should be the takeaway from his outing.
Akeel Morris also fanned 3 in 2 innings, only a single walk otherwise blemishing his line slightly.
Mauricio Cabrera warmed up with a 99 mph first pitch fastball, then got into triple digits. 1 walk and 1 hit in a scoreless inning.
Jose Ramierez and John Danks got beaten up a bit. Danks, in particular, was said to be looking good prior to this, but he was knocked for 3 hits and 2 runs while also walking a pair. Ramirez yielded 4 hits in 1.2 innings with 2 runs, but no walks against 2 strikeouts.

The team will be back after it this afternoon – heading over to Lakeland for their first look at the Tigers. 1:05pm Eastern.
