Atlanta Braves Scouting Report on C Kade Scivicque
Future Outlook
Kade Scivicque will immediately remind you of a former switch-hitting Braves backstop that actually was the starting catcher for multiple years in Atlanta, Johnny Estrada. Estrada was a career .277/.317/.400 hitter playing in the golden age of offensive numbers with a similar frame to Scivicque. Much like Kade, he had a more level swing path that was best utilized to generate gap power if any power at all.
Where I personally saw the connection the most, however, was in their work behind the plate. Estrada was a guy who was never tremendous at throwing out runners due to his footwork, but he did solid work behind the plate in keeping the ball in front of him and even framing pitches before that was a “thing”. He was also a guy who moved laterally very well, blocking pitches well.

Scivicque will get a chance to show himself at the Arizona Fall League this October and November, and hopefully he takes advantage of the opportunity as he’s in the mix of a number of solid defensive catchers with passable bats that will be around him in the pecking order of the minor leagues for 2017 and beyond.
