Jed Bradley

The Braves acquired Bradley from the Brewers back in June for the ubiquitous PTBNL.  The lefty started as the Brewers first round selection – 15th pick overall – in the 2011 draft.  He made five appearances including two starts in the AZL that season and was BA’s #71 prospect – Brewers #3 – , MLB.com’s #97 after that brief exposure.

His 2012 season started badly with a groin strain in spring training that kept him from pitching that spring and continued to bother him while pitching in A+ ball with Brevard. Instead of going on the DL he compensated for the discomfort by adjusting his mechanics but that made things worse. In 20 starts he a 5.53 ERA, 1.670 WHIP striking out 60 and walking 43.

According to BA ($) ”. . . his command was so bad that he rarely put pitches where he wanted to. . . (and) was such a mess that the Brewers shut him down in early August.” Even with those issues BA still named him the Brewers #12 prospect.

The next season Bradley was back at Brevard where he made just 16 starts – 4.14 ERA, 1.530 WHIP – before they shut him down again, this time with shoulder issues. That dropped him to the Brewers #20 prospect for 2014 according to BA.

2014

He started 2014 back in A+ ball but earned promotion to AA in June where he made 17 starts with a 4.55 ERA, 1.632 WHIP. He faced the M-Braves twice that season losing both outing. He did however stay health and generate the second highest ground ball rate in the minors that season.

The Brewers moved him to the bullpen and sent him to AAA Colorado springs in 2015 but he struggled there and returned to AA. He pitched well there in the second half but the beginning of the 2016 season saw him struggle again.

As a Braves Prospect

Bradley made four relief appearances for the M-Braves before they moved him back to a starting role. In 11 starts with Mississippi he threw 60 1/3 innings with a 2.09 ERA striking out 65 and walking 21. That work earned him a promotion to Gwinnett where he’s made three starts throwing 18 innings with a 1.50 ERA, 1.389 WHIP striking out 19 and walking 11 while facing 75 batters.
