A few Newsy Bits Around the Horn

MIAMI MARLINS

More from Tomahawk Take

We’ve heard that the Marlins have a terrible farm system… bad enough that (a) they are happy the Angels exist, and (b) bad enough that they were having trouble mustering trades this Summer.

Now this:  the Marlins Dominican Summer League team is the 2nd worst this century, according to BaseballAmerica.  10-56…. 39 games behind their division leaders (the Red Sox).  But for some canceled games, they might have been worse than the 2007 2nd Athletics team, which went 9-54.

Meanwhile:  the GCL Marlins (the next step up) are 22-30 (4th place in a 5-team division) the Batavia Muckdogs (Penn League short season) are 18-48 (last place of 6 teams) and the A-ball Greensboto Grasshoppers are 27-35 (6th of 7 both now and for the full season).

Just not very good in the low minors.

The Braves’ DSL team finished 30-40, by the way… in the middle of their division.

DALE MURPHY

The Murph was in Biloxi, MIssissippi last week as a headline speaker to help celebrate a baseball-themed art exhibit at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art.  He spent an hour holding court with fans and patrons – both discussing his baseball life and answering questions about the game… in short: still being an ambassador to the sport.
