The Rome Braves Won Again Last Night… That Wasn’t the Big Story

More from Tomahawk Take

In fact, Rome has now won 5 consecutive games over Hagerstown and Asheville. It’s been fairly convincing, too:  6-2, 3-1, 104, 4-2, and 10-3 scores with the entire rotation sharing in the “W”s.

But there’s a member of this team that has a lot more wins that this… and more than the 34-23 record that the first place Rome club has earned in the second half.

Team Manager Randy Ingle has paid his dues.  Bus rides, poor clubs, good clubs… he’s seen it all.  But the 58-year-old skipper saw a heckuva milestone last night.

1,500 wins.  This feat did not escape the attention of one of his key talent suppliers, either:

Ingle has been with the Braves in some capacity or other since roughly 1978, managing Rome more-or-less consistently since 2006 (excepting a couple of seasons).

Now you have to realize that this level of the minors does not play 162 games a year.  It’s 140, which takes some time to amass 1500 victories.

If Ingle had notched 1,500 wins in the majors, he would rank 22nd all-time (Bobby Cox is 4th with 2,504).

Baseball-reference.com has an incomplete list for minor league skippers, and #24 is Cananea Reyes at 1717-1295 from 1968-1991.  While I do not have Ingle’s full W-L career, I would estimate that it would require 3+ more seasons to crack this list…which would continue to underscore how much he’s meant to player development for the Atlanta Braves.

Congratulations, coach, on a job well done!
