Folty’s Five Five

The long top half meant inning meant Folty sat for about 30 minutes without throwing a pitch and it showed. He started by walking Kolten Wong on four pitches and giving up a single to Stephen Piscotty.

Brandon Moss jumped on a pitch up in the zone and everyone in the park thought the game was tied but Ender Inciarte made a superb catch against the wall for the first out

Moss drove Inciarte to the Wall in left center first out runners didn’t advance

Statcast showed that Inciarte’s first step took 0.1 seconds and he covered  96 ft with a route efficiency: 95.9%.  Most of us would have simply said it was a superb exhibition of center field play.

Foltynewicz seemed encourage by the catch and coaxed Matt Holliday into popping out to catcher Anthony Recker then struck out Matt Adams to end the threat.
In the Cardinal second Yadier Molina singled with one out and Jedd Gyorko doubled when Kemp and Inciarte crossed in the outfield and the ball went all the way to the wall.

After striking out Wainwright Folty hit Wong on the back foot to load the bases but Piscotty hit into a fielders choice to end the threat and the inning.

Moss hit a leadoff double in the third but that was the only thing the Cards got until the bottom of the fifth.

The Cardinal fifth started with a double from Wong. Piscotty hit a fly to medium right field and Wong tagged up to go to third. The throw from Markakis was way off target and the only thing that stopped him from scoring then was Folty doing his job and backing up third.

Moss hit a sac fly to right that drive in and make the game 6-1.
