Hitter of the week: As Carolina’s offense has been reviving, Keith Curcio has been right at the center, and now with the acquisition of Demeritte, there’s even more help coming for him. This week, Curcio put up a .409/.552/.682/1.234 line with 4 runs, 4 doubles, a triple, 5 RBI, a 7/4 BB/K ratio, and stole a base. He’s been moved toward the middle of the lineup, but he’s done well wherever placed in the lineup recently.

Honorable mention: Mel Rojas, Jr. has found his way onto these pages frequently since his acquisition from the Pirates, and it seems the change of scenery to the Braves organization was exactly what his stalled career needed. This last week, Rojas hit .333/.481/.714 as he’s moved to the top of the Gwinnett lineup, with 4 runs, 3 doubles, a triple, a home run, 3 RBI, and a 6/1 BB/K ratio.

Pitcher of the week: When the #3 pick was announced, many questioned the Braves selection of Ian Anderson, but all he’s done has been the best performer in the draft class. This last week, he made two starts, going a combined 9 innings, allowing just one unearned run on 6 hits and 2 walks, striking out 10. Fellow draftee Joey Wentz was promoted quickly to Danville, and I could see Anderson following suit very soon.

Honorable mention: Lucas Sims blew out of the gates so strong in Mississippi that many thought success at Gwinnett was just going to be a formality, but it didn’t go that way at all. Since returning to Mississippi, he’s been slowly building back up to the pitcher her was in April, and in his start this last week, he went 6 innings, allowing just a single hit and a walk, striking out 7, and his game score was his highest of the entire season.
