Braves could look to fill a third base gap with another former cast-off

This one could take more convincing… but it makes at least as much sense as bringing back McCann:

Yes:  the off-season.  The Marlins would not even entertain the thought of giving up Martin Prado now, but he will be a free agent at year’s end, finishing up a 4 year, $40 million extension deal that the Braves balked at offering under Wren, which led to his inclusion in the trade for Justin Upton.

Frankly, if it were any team other than the Marlins, we could be talking ‘Qualifying Offer’ for his services.  But these are the fish, and they are penny-pinching, and there’s Giancarlo Stanton‘s big contract out there, so… you know.

The Braves are suddenly flush with prospects who could take third base at some point (Rio Ruiz, Travis Demeritte, Austin Riley… never mind Kevin Maitan eventually), so the idea of upgrading the position over Adonis Garcia until one of these players “arrives” is a good one.  Prado is also enjoying a very fine year – and has excelled in 2 of the past 3 years with OPS+ rates of 144, 103, 122.  He’s currently hitting .327.

It was 2009 when Franceour, McCann, and Prado were all on the Braves last.  2017 could mark a reunion… but a lot has to fall into place before then.

Please forgive us, Martin!  And we have money!

I think I’m going to lose my mind before this trade deadline hits.
