Trade 3 – Yasiel Puig from the Dodgers… and more

I will not belabor this point, as we went over it yesterday in Josh’s examination of the Dodgers openly making Puig available.

I’m on board.

I had a suggested trade package in mind, but things have changed in the past couple of days for the boys in blue:

  • Alex Wood – needs surgery to clean up his elbow
  • Hyun-Jin Ryu – had shoulder issue; now elbow
  • Clayton Kershaw – sounding a lot like he needs back surgery

That leaves a rotation of Maeda, Norris, Kazmir, McCarthy, and Urias.  I don’t know if any of these guys can make it to the end of the season on a full innings load.

I’m still not offering Julio Teheran to them… but here’s what I am thinking:

The Braves would receive Yasiel Puig and Catcher Austin Barnes.

The hope is that one or more of these players would be acceptable to Tampa Bay as part of a deal that they would make with the Dodgers to obtain Chris Archer and another one of their starters.  It would be a semi-three-way trade.

With this, the Braves would add a third thumper bat to the lineup, plus an ML-ready catcher to work with Tyler Flowers.  This is a deal that would be appropriate for the next few days since the Dodgers are in such immediate need.

As we discussed in Josh’s piece, Puig is indeed a wild card… but he’s a big bat with the potential for even more… and available as a somewhat discounted price.  Worth the risk.
