If the Atlanta Braves were Pokémon, What would they Be?

  • Type:  Ghost/Dragon (Rare)
  • Weight:  90 kg
  • Height:  6’2″
  • Combat Power:  2.96 (some trainers scoff at this and use 3.91)
  • Where found:  Tehratina is fond of lurking in the shadows where no one talks about him, but is always available when needed.
  • Abilities:   Telepathy (Anticipates an opponent’s attack and picks it off), Pressure (uses mind power to make opponent believe one attack is coming, then delivers a different attack)
  • Note:  The fully evolved Tehratina is typically much better in battle than its stats seem to suggest, with results comparable to Lestertina/Kerchomp/Greninjke due to ability to attack as much lower cost than these other Pokémon.  As a result, there is a wide difference of opinion as to whether Tehratina should be your team’s lead attacker or be used 2nd or 3rd.

A.J. PIERZYNSKI – ZYNKING (based on Nidoking)

  • Type:  Poison/Ground (Legendary)
  • Weight:  800 lbs.
  • Height:  6’3″
  • Combat Power:  400 (can be doubled)
  • Where found:  Could be hanging around just about anywhere
  • Abilities:   Rivalry (powers up attacks against foes; you don’t want to be on his bad side), Poison Point (contact with Zynking may poison the attacker)
  • Note:  Zynking is highly durable, with deflective plates to ward off attacks.  But do not think that this is a defense-first Pokémon, as his attacking abilities rank him among the all-time best.

MALLEX SMITH – DEOXSMITH (based on Deoxys)

  • Type:  Psychic (Rare)
  • Weight:  81 kg
  • Height:  5’9″
  • Combat Power:  100
  • Where found:  You will not see Deoxsmith; Deoxsmith will find you.
  • Abilities:   Take Second (if a successful attack is landed, Deoxsmith will get another attack without a response).
  • Note:  The fastest of all Pokémon, one cannot catch Deoxsmith under normal circumstances; Deoxsmith has to make a mistake to be caught, therefore it is among the rarest find in Pokedexes of baseball Pokémon.

CHASE d’ARNAUD – AEROD’NACTYL (based on Aerodactyl)

  • Type:  Rock-n-Roll/Flying (Uncommon)
  • Weight:  90 kg
  • Height:  6’1″
  • Combat Power:  140
  • Where found:  Aerod’nactyl can be found all over local Parks; also been known to show up in clubs on off-days.
  • Abilities:   Unnerve (makes opponents nervous and unable to throw successful attacks).  Rock Head (Immunity to damage from banging its head into walls … or into opponents)
  • Note:  Aerod’nactyl is nearly as fast as Deoxsmith, but picks his spots to show it.  Defensive abilities are sometimes a concern since he tends to wander around a very large home domain without any single outstanding ability – but a solid battler, regardless.

Can be used in tandem with Aerosmith (not pictured) or Deoxsmith.

DANSBY SWANSON – SWANNSA (based on Swanna)

  • Type:  Water/Flying (Uncommon)
  • Weight:  80 kg
  • Height:  6’1″
  • Combat Power:  200
  • Where found:  Hanging around dugouts for up to half an hour after battles; also known to frequent local salons.
  • Abilities:   Keen Eye (monitors all situations for attacks; improves accuracy), Key Hacks (defends well against incoming threats; often reflects them)
  • Note:  As a water type, Swannsa is well-protected and well-coifed against the elements and elemental attacks in general.  Supports his own Pokémon team exceptionally well in battle.

NICK MARKAKIS – MARKAZONE (based on Magnezone)

  • Type:  Electric/Steel (Uncommon)
  • Weight:  85 kg
  • Height:  6’1″
  • Combat Power:  289 (lifetime, though 253 at the moment)
  • Where found:  In stark contrast to Swannsa, Markezone is never found anywhere near a salon
  • Abilities:   Sturdy (cannot be knocked out with one hit), Analytic (Boosts power when other Pokémon on team successfully attack first; Magnetic Pull:  attacks are drawn to him.  Often bests Heywartina in battle.
  • Note:  Do you recall those kids games that used a magnetic stylus to draw iron filings onto a picture of a face so that you could ‘decorate’ the face anyway you wanted to?  That’s what a Markazone looks like.

Do remember to watch out for your surroundings whenever seeking out your Braves’ Pokémon … be safe out there!
