The Final Two

Peterson led off the eighth with a single to center and was on his way to second when d’Arnaud’s line drive was snagged by a leaping Time Anderson who trotted over and tagged Jace out. Freeman doubled to right center sending Shields to the showers in Favor of Zach Duke. Markakis swung at the first pitch by Duke and grounded out to end the inning.

We entered the bottom half of the eighth with the game just two hours old and Chris Withrow on the mound greeted by a fly ball to deep right field that brought a nice catch from Markakis. Shuck grounded out pitcher to first and Anderson popped out the Peterson and Withrow was through the inning on six pitches in six minutes.

Matt Albers pitched the top of the ninth for the Sox and coaxed Frenchy to fly out to left then walked Adonis Garcia. Sox manager Robin Venture has seen enough and called for Dan Jennings to face AJ. The strategy worked as AJ hit into a force play and Inciarte did the same.

Manager Brian Snitker called on Jim Johnson to try to close out the game.  Adam Eaton scorched a worm killer to Peterson who dropped it but recovered in time to get the first out.  Jose Abreu followed that by dumping a hump back line drive to right for a single but Johnson got Cabrera to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

The Good

The good for this game starts with Fotynewicz who today showed what he can be; a top of the rotation power arm who can walk through six innings varying his pitches between79 and 95 then reaching  back for 98mph heat in the seventh; easy gas.  Credit to AJ for calling the game and keeping Folty on track when he needed to.

AJ lands in the good ranks today as well. In addition to handling Folty he with the 400th double of his career behind only Ivan Rodriguez (572), Ted Simmons (483), and Carlton Fisk(421).

Jeff Francoeur gets a nod as well, his homer gave the Braves the led and it was on a RHP and Jace Peterson provided a cushion with his fourth homer of the year.

Didn’t see any not so good today, that’s a first.
