Norris

Norris cruised through the first four innings facing just one over the minimum thanks to a single by Rene Rivera  and a super catch by Adonis Garcia doing his Josh Donaldson impression on a foul ball.

In the fifth the Mets tried to rally as Loney and Wilmer Flores hit back to back singles to start the inning,  Norris settled down to coax a soft ground ball from Brandon Nimmo and strike out Rivera and Colon to end the inning and strand the runners.

Johnson singled to lead off the sixth as rain started to fall. With Matt Reynolds at the plate Johnson stole second but Norris poured cold water on the rally striking out Reynolds, getting Yoenis Cespedes to fly out to right and Walker to ground out weakly. Norris finished his day with a 1-2-3 seventh.

In his seven innings today Norris threw 88 pitches – 67 for strikes- allowing four hits and striking out eight without a walk.

Bullpen Game

The Braves bullpen has been very good lately and Jim Johnson continued that with a 1-2-3 eighth including two strikeouts.  Aside from their closer the Mets bullpen has not been so good, that proved true again today.

With a series of lefties coming to the plate Mets skipper Terry Collins turned to lefty Antonio Bastardo to start the inning.  Inciarte greeted him by beating out an infield hit.

Bastardo was clearly distracted by Inciarte dancing off of first base and committed one of the worst balks I’ve ever seen at any level moving Inciarte to second. He continued to be distracted by Inciarte but worked his way back to a 3-2 count on Freeman.

On the payoff pitch he completely ignored Inciarte who had strayed so far off second that had the pitcher simply stepped off he could have picked Inciarte off. He didn’t however and Inciarte stole third as Bastardo delivered ball four to  Freeman

Markakis hit a 1-1 pitch through drawn in infield scoring Inciarte and that was the end of Basardo’s day as Collins brought in righty Logan Verrett to pitch to Garcia.
