Thursday

Mississippi jumped out quick to a 2-0 lead, but then couldn’t keep up as Birmingham took Thursday’s game 5-2. Victor Mateo got the start for the M-Braves and went 6 1/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks, striking out 4. Dustin Peterson was the only Brave on twice, with a single and a walk. Jake Schrader had a double.

Friday

Mississippi took Friday’s game from Birmingham 7-1. Jed Bradley got the start for the Braves and went 3 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and 3 walks, striking out 6. The M-Braves exploded for 16 hits on the game, led by Willians Astudillo with 4 singles. Mel Rojas had a home run and a single. Dansby Swanson had a double and a single. Dustin Peterson and Carlos Franco each had two singles. Dian Toscano had a single and a walk. Jake Schrader hit a home run.

Saturday

After scoring 2 in the top of the 9th to tie it, Mississippi fell to Birmingham in 10 innings, 3-2. Sean Newcomb had another tremendous start, going 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, striking out 5. Dustin Peterson snapped his hitting streak, but he did have two walks. Dian Toscano had a single and a walk. Mel Rojas had a double.

Sunday

Mississippi supported another excellent start by Robert Whalen with 8 runs to get the 8-3 victory. Whalen went 7 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on 2 hits and a walk, striking out 8. Jake Schrader had three singles. Jordy Lara had two doubles. Dansby Swanson and Dustin Peterson each had two singles. Carlos Franco had a single and two walks. Dian Toscano had two walks. Mel Rojas had a single and a walk.
