Atlanta Braves Morning Chop: Draftees Beaming
The 2016 Atlanta Braves Draft Class
[table id=44 /]
A Few Fun Facts
- 42 players chosen all together
- 24 pitchers, including 6 of the first 7 picks
- 8 are southpaws; 16 right-handers
- Among the position players: C (4) , 1B (3), 2B (3), SS (1), 3B (2), OF (5)
- There are two different guys named Brandon White: drafted in consecutive rounds, and both right-handed pitchers. That’s just weird.
- 11 Community College and Junior College players
- 12 High School players
- That leaves 19 college players. Many of these were taken from Rounds 2-S to 10 in the hopes of saving bonus pool monies for the top 3 picks.
- Importantly: each of the players selected in Rounds 6-10 are college seniors. The Braves will underslot these players to help get the Top 3 pitchers – plus 11th rounder Matt Rowland – the bonuses their talents require.
Instant reports on these players were provided by Ben Chase on Day1, Day 2, and Day 3 of the draft with live running commentary hosted by Fred Owens. Fred gave us a recap after Day 1, and I chimed in with a first look at ranking the draftees against the MLB’s version of our prospects list.
Ben is planning on more to come in the next couple of weeks – stay tuned for the low-down… and the signing announcements!
Oh wait… here’s the first one:
Believe it or not, I actually know who this is: the second Brandon White – the pitcher selected in Round 13 from Davenport, Michigan!
Update: Here’s that 11th Rounder I mentioned: SIGNED
