J.B. Moss

Moss is an outfielder out of Texas A&M in three years with the Aggies he posted a .297/.384/.448/.832 line with 10 homers striking out 102 times and walking 54.

From 2013 and 2014 he played fro the Victoria Generals in the Texas Collegiate League posting a .226/.359/.290/.649 with a homer and 45 Ks in 217 AB. In 2015 he played for Neptune Beach in the California League and had better luck posting a .348/.444/.527/.971 line with 2 homers 23 Ks and 20 walks in 112 AB.

Ben Chase’s take on Moss

Moss is an interesting senior sign. He seems very similar to current Brave prospect Keith Curcio in his make up, though Curcio adds the ability to play center and second base, while Moss is mostly going to be held to left field.

Moss finally had more power this season after getting nearly no playing time for Texas A&M. He hit 26 extra base hits in 61 games, which is more than you’d expect. He’s played in summer leagues -as noted above- and played well there, but that hasn’t translated to SEC play until his senior year.

Taylor Hyssong

Hyssong is a LHRP out of UC Wilmington. He transferred there from Pitt CC two years ago. In his final year at Wilmington he threw 36 2/3 IP with a 4.42 ERA and 1.64 WHIP striking out 26 and walking 13.

Tyler Neslony

Tyler Neslony was  the top returning position player prospect in the conference  this season He has power and plate discipline  and projects as a corner outfielder as a pro.

Neslony had a big game driving in four runs to lead Texas Tech past Fairfield 12-1 on Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament’s Lubbock Regional.

Ben Chase’s Take

Neslony was  was a bigger prospect after his sophomore year. He scuffled as a junior due to injury but bounced back some this season and has come up big in the postseason.

He has a good swing that creates good contact and and gap to gap hitting without a ton of over-the-fence power. As noted above he projects as a left field guy due to an average arm, but looks to be above average if not outstanding there

Marcus Mooney – Ben’s Take

Mooney’s a glove-first shortstop with a tiny frame from South Carolina.  He doesn’t have a string arm, but he is an absolute vacuum  in the field. His range is a tick above average and his hands are excellent. He doesn’t hit for power but rarely strikes out and gets on base consistently. Fits the mold of a Mark Lemke kind of player, grinds everything out, never quits and leaves it all on the field.

That’s A Wrap

This wraps up day two of the draft. Day three will go quickly and there will  be little information above name and school for the players. Ben will be diving into this as we find out who signs and where they get assigned.
