Atlanta Braves Mock Draft Monday: Remaining Options

Pick #44
So the Braves have a pair of high school arms from Kansas. What would they pursue at pick #44 in the second round?

I have been working as hard on this pick as any as the first two picks are seemingly locked down at this point. From what I am understanding, the third pick may also be locked down already, and it’s all a matter of getting to the pick to find out who the team has worked out their deal with.

My best information says that they’ve worked hard with a handful Georgia kids – Josh Lowe, Will Benson, Carter Kieboom, Brandon Marsh, and Akil Baddoo. Baddoo may be the most “Braves” pick of all of them, being young for his class and very, very talented. However, what I have been told strong is that while they have worked on those Georgia guys, they’ve possibly made their deal with a bat outside of the state for #44.

My best guess would be that they’ve either worked a deal with a guy I’ve got going earlier in the draft here (one of the two Pennsylvania prep hitters – Kirilloff or Jones, or somehow pulling off a deal of all deals with Moniak/Rutherford), but I had a text last week that led me to believe that #44 very well could be a college hitter, not a prep hitter. That would put guys like Heath Quinn, Austin Hays, or Anfernee Grier into play at 44.

Picks #76/80
I will almost guarantee that you will see Matthias Dietz of John A. Logan Junior College selected at 76 or 80. The other selection will most certainly be a college player, probably a senior hitter or a college hitter that they thought would sign for slot or under slot.

I picked Bobby Dalbec in the mock draft over at Minor League Ball this weekend for the Braves, and he’s absolutely the type of hitter I could see the Braves targeting at #80 as they were scouting him heavily during the Cape Cod League last summer.

That would lead to the first five selections being 3 pitchers, two prep arms and one junior college arm, and 2 hitters, very possibly 2 college hitters. From what I have been hearing, that is a definite possibility to happen on Thursday. At this point, though, we’ll just have to wait to see what comes out on Thursday!

What would be your thoughts on this situation?!
