Will the Next Braves Pitcher Please Step Up?

We thought things might be settling into place for the Atlanta Braves rotation, but after Bud Norris‘ inability to get good hitters out yesterday… either time through the order… suddenly the stable or arms is now in flux (again).

Norris was hammered for six earned runs and 9 hits in 3 innings… plus threw in an error… in the Braves’ Tuesday loss vs. Detroit.  That leaves the presumptive rotation as Julio Teheran, Matt Wisler Jhoulys Chacin, plus maybe 2 of these 3:  Norris, Williams Perez, and Manny Banuelos.

You might recall that we all believed Wandy Rodriguez was going to make the team a year ago at this time… but then a poor start made the coaches sqeamish about his ability to go deep into games… and he was ultimately released.

None of the latter 3 has particularly stood out so far, which could leave the door open for another contender such as Aaron Blair (though he’s been hit hard, too), Ryan Weber (5 runs allowed, though 0.00 ERA), or John Gant.

The Braves would certainly like to avoid spending any more money, but there are some free agent options out there if absolutely necessary.

Wandy is available, by the way.  Just saying.
