More News, Notes and Links…

  • Pitching prospects Aaron Blair and Lucas Sims both took steps forward in their last outings. The young hurlers each struck out more than a batter per inning and avoided relinquishing a single earned run in their respective 2-inning appearances.

Tyrell Jenkins went in the other direction, striking out two but surrendering 2 hits and 2 walks to seven batters in his one inning of action. Jenkins has since been optioned to Gwinnett, though the move was certainly not related to the outing mentioned here. We’re left to ponder the over/under on how many days until we see him in Atlanta again…

Here’s a complete rundown of the Braves transactions from the weekend. There’s a bunch.

More from Tomahawk Take

  • Mallex Smith cooled down big time this week, but to be fair he was on a TORRID pace to start the Grapefruit League campaign. He also had a base running blunder on Friday, if you’re into negativity.
  • Are we seeing the beginning of the league turning Freddie Freeman into a walk-asaurus? He had 5 free passes in 10 Plate Appearances last week. That OBP is looking flashy, but let’s hope the Braves can show some life behind Freeman in the order so he can see some strikes and do what he do… mash baseballs. He mashes even when it concerns his soon to be firstborn child, which will be a boy!

Technically, the most recent wrist scare with our golden boy didn’t occur during the baseball week that this edition of M&P is deftly covering, but read about it here.

Adrian Gonzalez will take time off from Spring Training to play for the Mexican team during World Baseball Classic qualifiers. Tune in, yall. The WBC is something to celebrate (though I’m sure Dodgers fans have mixed feelings about their star missing time with the MLB club).

The Marlins are interested in Tim Lincecum as a bullpen option. Not exactly flattering for the former standout, but whaddya gonna do?
