Atlanta Braves Morning Chop: News, Notes, and #FreeTheKnee
Several Transaction, Roster Notes
multiple industry sources provided this information
- New top prospect Ozhaino Albies has been placed on the DL for Rome with a broken thumb. This will likely end his 2015 season. Ozzy was hitting .310 with a .368 OBP, 29 steals in 37 attempts, and a .771 OPS. He made 17 errors at shortstop this season – which is not unusual at that level.
- Former 1st round pick (2013) Jason Hursh was promoted to AAA Gwinnett. He appears to be making a successful transition to a relief pitcher after an extended attempt to use him as a starter. The better news is that Hursh is a power pitcher, and could develop into a David Carpenter (the 1st one)/Jordan Walden kind of role… maybe sooner than later.
- Andrelton Simmons could return to the lineup by the weekend.
- Hector Olivera will not be around that soon. Seems that his hamstring ailment is worse that had been reported:
That suggests the we won’t see him in the majors until probably close to September. Guess we’ll have to muddle through with the other 30-year-old third baseman that we’ve got. Take your time, Hector!
