Atlanta Braves Minor League Thursday Report

The Braves may have struggled to score at the major league level, but the minor league teams had no such issues. The Rome offense in particular has been really clicking.

DSL Braves (12-16)

Monday

The Braves were defeated by the Cubs on Monday 5-1. Luis Perez started the game, but he only went 2/3 of an inning before being pulled. Randy Ventura had a double and stole third base for his 25th steal of the year. He also drove in the only run the Braves scored to really be the key man of the offense.

Tuesday

The Braves had a monster offensive game, defeating the Pirates 13-7. Gabriel Henry started the game and threw 3 scoreless innings. Terrence Josephina had three hits, including a home run, and added a walk. Anthony Concepcion had two hits and a walk, including his 6th double. Alex Aquino had a double and triple and walked. Danyer Sanchez, Sander Boeldak, and William Contreras had two singles each. Luis Olmos had a single and a walk. Randy Ventura had a double and stole his 26th base on the year.

Wednesday

The Braves continued their hot hitting, defeating the Pirates Wednesday 7-2. Luis Mora started the game for DSL. Randy Ventura had three hits, including a triple. William Contreras had three hits. Terrence Josephina had two singles while Raysheandall Michel had a single and a walk.

GCL Braves (3-6)

Monday

Monday’s game against GCL Yankees Team 1 was postponed due to rain.

Tuesday

The Yankees 1 and Braves played a double-header Tuesday. In the postponed game, the Yankees beat the Braves 5-2. Felix Falcon started the game and only went 3 innings. Ruben Perez had two walks. Ronald Acuna had a single and a walk.

The regularly scheduled Tuesday game was won by the Braves 4-3. Lucas Sims threw his second rehab start, going 3 innings, allowing 3 runs (only 1 earned) on 3 hits and a walk while striking out 5. Wes Parsons also added 2 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Justin Ellison had 3 hits and a steal. Isranel Wilson and Robert Nesovic had two hits, each adding a double as well. Alejandro Salazar stole his first base of the season.

Wednesday

The Braves shut out the Phillies 5-0 on Wednesday. Gabino Avalos threw 4 scoreless innings to start the game while striking out 3. Ruben Perez hit his first home run and drove in 3 runs. Angel Perez had two hits, including a double. Ronald Acuna had a single and a walk. Robert Nesovic had a double. Alejandro Salazar and Austin Riley each had a steal.

Danville Braves (4-5)

Monday

The Kingsport Mets scored 6 runs from the 6th inning on to defeat Danville 6-5 Monday. 2015 4th round selection Josh Graham started the game and went 3 hitless innings, walking one and striking out three. The Braves put up 10 hits and 6 walks. Trey Keegan was on base 4 times with a double, two singles, and a walk while stealing a base. Ray-Patrick Didder had two triples and a walk. Luke Dykstra and Kurt Hoekstra each added a stolen base.

Tuesday

Danville lost a 1-0 pitching duel to Kingsport on Tuesday. Ryan Lawlor started the game and went 3 scoreless innings. Evan Phillips went three innings, striking out 6, but his only mistake, a home run allowed to Kevin Kaczmarski, was the deciding run of the game. Leudys Baez had 4 hits and 2 steals on the day. Carlos Martinez added two hits.

Wednesday

The Braves defeated the Mets on Wednesday 9-4. Matt Withrow started the game and struck out 5 in 3 innings. Jose Morel had a double, single, and a walk. Luke Dykstra had a double, walk, and drove in 2 runs. Carlos Martinez had two walks. Jake Lanning, Kelvin Estevez, and Yeudi Grullon each had a single and a walk.

Rome Braves (33-43)

Monday

Rome’s bats were kept silent Monday as August blanked the R-Braves 6-0. Oriel Caicedo got the start and went 5 innings, allowing 4 runs (only 1 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 4. Ozhaino Albies and Omar Obregon each had two singles and a walk to lead the offense. On the negative side, while Jordan Edgerton picked up a single and his average is .290, he also committed his 18th error on the season at third base.

Tuesday

The Rome Braves and Lexington Legends scored 24 combined runs on Tuesday. Lexington came out on top 14-10. Yean Carlos Gil had one solid start after his demotion, but came back down to earth. He went 4 2/3 innings, allowing 9 runs on 9 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. Matt Tellow had a ridiculous game with 3 hits, including a home run and a double, while driving in 7 runs on the game. Braxton Davidson had three hits, including a pair of doubles and a walk. Ozhaino Albies had two hits and a walk, including his 7th triple of the season. Jordan Edgerton had two singles and a walk. Stephen Gaylor had two singles, a walk, and a stolen base. Joseph Daris nearly equaled Gaylor with two singles and his 13th steal of the year. Connor Oliver had a double and a walk. Bryan De La Rosa hit a single and had a walk.

Max Povse struggled in the first start since his promotion to Carolina, going 4 innings, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits and 2 walks with 1 strikeout as Potomac beat Carolina 7-2. Jose Briceno continued his hot hitting with 2 singles and a walk. Johan Camargo had a single and a walk. Connor Lien stole his 13th base of the season.

Tuesday

After fighting hard to get back into the game, the Mudcats lost the game Tuesday as Potomac scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to win 6-5. Brandon Barker had a rough start, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits and a walk, striking out 4. Joseph Odom was on base four times, including a single, double, and 2 walks. Keith Curcio had a double and a walk. Carlos Franco hit his 7th home run. Dustin Peterson and Johan Camargo added a single and a walk.

Wednesday

The Mudcats defeated Winston-Salem on Wednesday 4-1. Blair Walters had a very solid start, hurling 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits and a walk while striking out 5. Jacob Schrader had two hits, including his 15th double of the season. Connor Lien had a single, walk, and a stolen base. Reed Harper had a double.

Monday

Mississippi won on Monday over Pensacola 4-2. Jason Hursh got the start and went 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. He was pulled after two batters in the 5th though he only had thrown 75 pitches. Matt Lipka and Rio Ruiz each had 3 hits. Lipka added two doubles while Ruiz had one. Matt Kennelly had two hits, including a double. KD Kang had a triple and a walk while Kevin Ahrens added a single and a walk.

Tuesday

Tuesday was an off day for Mississippi.

Wednesday

Biloxi walked off against Mississippi in the 10th inning, defeating the M-Braves 2-1. Greg Ross got the start and went 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 9 hits and a walk while striking out 2. KD Kang and Braeden Schlehuber each had two singles. Matt Lipka had a home run.

Gwinnett starter Mike Foltynewicz had his most dominant start since his return to AAA, going 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6. The Gwinnett offense was provided by Adonis Garcia‘s 4th inning 2-run home run as they defeated Buffalo 2-1.

Tuesday

A 3-run 12th inning secured an extra inning win for Gwinnett over Buffalo 4-1. Cody Martin had a solid start, going 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 5. Cedric Hunter hit a home run and walked. Christian Bethancourt, Sean Kazmar, and Daniel Castro each had two hits. Castro added a double while Kamar stole his second base of the season. Eric Young, Jr. had a single and a walk.

Wednesday

Gwinnett defeated Buffalo 6-2 on Wednesday. Alex White threw 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 3. Carlos Fisher threw 3 perfect innings and added a strikeout. Daniel Castro had two singles and a walk. Mycal Jones had two hits, including a home run. Sean Kazmar had two hits, including a triple. Todd Cunningham had a single, walk, and a stolen base. Eric Young Jr. stole 2 bases on the day.
