UGA 5-star impresses Atlanta Braves
Could a top UGA football signee be the next Andrelton Simmons or Rafael Furcal?
That’s what the Atlanta Braves were trying to figure out on Thursday when they entertained Terry Godwin and other high school prospects for a private workout at Turner Field.

“It went really well,” Godwin’s mother told the AJC. “The Braves didn’t say much. They just said that they would be getting in touch, and that he did great.”
Godwin is the 5-star receiver from Callaway who signed a football scholarship with UGA last February.
On Thursday, the Braves put Godwin at shortstop rather than his normal position of third base, and he also got some time in right field. The scouts were impressed with Godwin’s arm strength (he also pitches) on a few throws from the outfield to home plate.
Godwin also showed good contact in batting practice. He was unable to display his blazing speed in the 60-yard dash because it was called off due to weather.
[ Ed. note: full article at the link above. Answer to the question on the first line? Uh, no – not very likely at all. That said, the Braves even pulled out the “McGriff Card” by bringing the Crime Dog out to talk with Godwin during the workout. This could get a little interesting, but unless he’s a Top-5 round pick, I imagine he’s still playing football in Athens this fall. ]
