Minor League Notes

More from Tomahawk Take

The prospects are doing incredible things – can’t even wait until the next Monday Minor’s report to share a couple of them:

  • Jose Peraza sat out a few games with an undisclosed leg injury.  He’s back… and has hit two homers in the 2 games since.  That’s not normally his thing, but nice nonetheless.
  • @BravesReddit made me look at Mallex Smith (again), now at AA Pearl.  Now recognize that Tommy La Stella (.343) and Jose Peraza (.335) both hit Southern League pitching very well while they were there.  Smith is now at .348.
  • Smith’s last 3 games:  1-1 (2 RBI) as a pinch-hitter, 3-4 (w/BB, RBI, 2 runs), 3-4 (2 runs).  All were Mississippi wins; Braves only had 4 hits total last night… Mallex pretty much single-handedly beat Jacksonville with Tyrell Jenkins getting the win.
  • I don’t know about Chris O’Dowd on defense as a catcher, and he certainly wasn’t the ‘centerpiece’ of our off-season trade with Colorado, but this kid is also playing with his hair on fire at AA:  .338.
  • While I’m here, I should at least acknowledge Daniel Castro and his off-the-charts .389 average for Mississippi as well.  He’s doing this in 90 AB (vs. a team-leading 132 for Smith), but… .389!
