Fredi Gonzalezwas ejected for arguing strikes, according to a report from Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“It was balls and strikes,” Gonzalez said, according to the report. “I thought the balls in the first inning were down and they were calling strikes. Then Shelby (Miller) throws a good pitch and they call a ball. It’s a late game in spring training and I get a little ornery because I’m usually in bed by this time. Maybe my temper got me a little bit.”
TAMPA, Fla. — Maybe he had plans?
Atlana Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez was ejected in during the first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning of Thursday’s game against the Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
It’s unclear what caused plate umpire Dan Iassogna to boot the Braves’ skipper, but it happened quickly, and it set Gonzalez off even more.
[ Ed note: Well, the reason may have been unclear to this writer, but it was pretty obvious to other observers: Freddie Freeman was called out on a questionable pitch from Masahiro Tanaka in the top of the first inning, and then Shelby Miller didn’t get the same call immediately afterwards in the bottom of the inning.
Fredi quickly took exception and then – in the classic Bobby Cox tradition – he was run.
Good on Fredi. ]
