Braves’ Gonzalez: Simmons, Markakis ‘progressing well’

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez updated the status of shortstop Andrelton Simmons (oblique) and outfielder Nick Markakis (neck) Monday, saying that both players are “progressing well,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

“Simmons and Markakis are doing their stuff and progressing well,” Gonzalez said. “I don’t have a timetable for when they’re going to be on the field (in games). But Simmons is getting some (batting practice), some ground balls, that kind of stuff. I think Nick is a little behind that.”

[ Ed. note:  this is from Monday.  Simmons, as we have reported, will be penciled in for tonight’s game against the Yankees, to be aired over the MLB Network.  Markakis is still a few days away. ]
