5. Max Fried – Left handed pitcher

In 2014, Fried was shut down in spring training by the San Diego Padres with a forearm injury and then made just five starts all season in the minors because of being shut down to have Tommy John surgery in late August.

The Braves acquired him in December as a part of the deal that sent Justin Upton to the Padres.

Fried’s fastball reportedly sits in the low 90s, and it routinely can touch 95 mph.  His curveball is his best offspeed pitch, and has a decent changeup.  All three of his pitches are projected to be at least major league average pitches.

He was the 7th overall pick by the Padres in the 2012 draft out of high school and has been ranked among Baseball America’s top 100 prospects both in 2013 and 2014.  Even with missing most of 2014 and now 2015, Fried is still ranked in MLB.com’s Top 100 at number 68.

The now 20-year-old will likely miss all of 2015.  Keep an eye on this kid in 2016
