Who Was The Last Atlanta Braves Pitcher To Throw A No-Hitter?
By Jeff Schafer
The date was April 8, 1994 and Kent Mercker was on the mound. The Atlanta Braves were facing the LA Dodgers. The Braves won the game 6-0 and Mercker threw his first complete game. He went on to total 10 strikeouts and gave up zero hits.
Mercker was the last Braves pitcher to throw a no-hitter.
An interesting note from this game….Chan Ho Park came into the game to pitch the ninth inning for the Dodgers becoming the first Korean player to appear in a major league game.
Since then, the Braves have been on the opposite side of a no-hit game twice. Once in 2004 against Randy Johnson and the other in 2010 against Ubaldo Jimenez.
The Braves organization have 11 no-hitters…three while in Atlanta, four while in Milwaukee and four while in Boston.
Mercker was actually apart of two of the Braves no-hitters…the one he completed in 1994 and a combined no-hitter on September 11, 1991 when he pitched six innings, Mark Wohlers pitched two and Alejandro Pena threw the last inning against the Padres.
