The Atlanta Braves played in their 12th Spring Training game this afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It won't be possible in the regular season, but this afternoon's game ended in a 6-6 tie. Although, there wasn't a winner, the Braves did have some important notes that came from this ballgame. Let's take a look at all of them.

Waldrep reassigned to minor league camp

Fans shouldn’t be shocked by this move, but one of the Braves top prospects is headed to minor league camp despite not allowing a run in Spring Training action thus far. Hurston Waldrep pitched 2.1 scoreless innings on Friday against Pittsburgh, and was immediately sent down to minor league camp after his outing.

Waldrep looks to be knocking on the door after his 4.1 innings and 5 K’s this spring. However, Waldrep did walk four batters as well, so some more time in Gwinnett is best for him to continue and harness his command.

Fried struggles, Murphy back in action

Max Fried made his second Spring Training as well, and this one didn’t go nearly as well as his first appearance. In his three innings, Fried allowed 5 hits, 4 earned runs, and one homer. However, for anyone panicking it’s a good reminder to know Fried had 6.43 ERA in the 2022 Spring Training, only for him to finish runner-up for the NL Cy Young award that regular season.

Braves catcher Sean Murphy was inserted back into the lineup for the first time in over a week due to a stomach bug he was battling for the past week. He promptly picked up two hits in his three AB’s to make him 4-9 thus far in Spring Training. With only 41 players remaining in major league camp, expect more and more of the regulars to be in the lineup more often.
