We got some movement from the Atlanta Braves on Friday although the moves were firmly in the more minor category. We still don’t have news on who will be playing shortstop for the team in 2023 nor do we know if they are going to make another addition to help out the situation in left field.

Getting back to the moves, the Braves first made a couple of minor league signings as they brought back Ehire Adrianza on an MiLB deal and signed Mitchell Tolman to a minor league pact as well. Adrianza will get an invite to big league camp and has a history of being a relatively useful and versatile bench option for the Braves while Tolman’s signing doesn’t come with a big league camp invite.

The Braves also traded for infielder Hoy Park from the Red Sox for a player to be named later or cash. Not the most exciting move as Park seems like a depth piece, but he has had success in the minors in the past and maybe the Braves think they can unlock more out of him.

Elsewhere on the site, we took a look at the prospect of a Max Fried extension and how much that could realistically cost to pull off. Carlos Rodon’s deal with the Yankees gives us at least a starting point to think about, but there is a real chance that any contract that Fried gets will get to $30 million per year which could price the Braves out.

Finally, our prospect list rollout (of which the most recent update posted this morning) began with Braves prospects 26-30. As a bit of a spoiler, a pair of draftees from the Braves’ most recent draft class feature prominently.

MLB News

In news from the world outside of the Braves, the Twins signed Joey Gallo to a one year, $11 million deal. Gallo has otherworldly raw power and the Twins are betting that he can find his stride again on a make good deal and Gallo is hoping that a strong season could position him well going into next offseason for a longer, more lucrative deal.

One rumor that was floating around yesterday had nothing to do with this year’s free agent class. There is a lot of smoke currently that Manny Machado will opt out of his current 10 year, $300 million deal with the Padres and functionally leave $150 million on the table in search of an even bigger payday. Assuming that he plays well again next season, he’ll probably get one.

I started my career writing about baseball covering the Atlanta Braves for SB Nation's Talking Chop back in 2015 which has since been renamed Battery Power. After years of writing for those fine folks, I made the decision to take over as Site Expert at House That Hank Built before becoming a full-time MLB Staff Writer for FanSided in 2023. Along the way, I have been a guest on multiple ESPN radio affiliates as well as 680 The Fan and 92.9 The Game to discuss Braves baseball and especially Braves prospects and was a long-time host on the Battery Power podcast. These days, I continue to write about the Braves as well as covering the Astros, Padres, and Angels with particular expertise with minor league coverage, the MLB Draft, and bashing Anthony Rendon when possible. When I am not writing about or talking about baseball (which is seldom), I am an avid baseball card collector (Maddux and Soroka being my primary personal collections) and I also collect shark teeth. All other sports are mostly dead to me as my Bills have broken my heart too many times.
