Predicting the Bullpen for the Atlanta Braves to Start 2021
Some are concerned about the Braves bullpen going into Spring Training, but I feel like there is a nice core there to work with. And bullpens are something that always be easily fixed during a season.
14. Will Smith
I know he didn’t give a great introduction to Braves fans in 2020, but I’m more than willing to give him a pass considering the tough situation of 2020 — especially for Will — and his track record. He’ll have a big bounce-back year and be the team’s primary closer.
15. Chris Martin
A steady presence in the bullpen, Martin has been fabulous since the Braves traded for him and then signed him. I have no concerns when Martin comes out of those bullpen gates.
16. A.J. Minter
Minter finally became the dominant reliever we all knew he could be. Now he just has to try and repeat that performance and prove 2020 wasn’t a fluke.
17. Tyler Matzek
The same for Minter can be said for Matzek who seemingly came out of nowhere to be one of the best relievers in baseball last year.
18. Jacob Webb
In 42.1 big league innings, Webb has allowed just 5 earned runs on 31 hits and 17 walks with 38 strikeouts. I expect to him to be a much bigger part of the bullpen in 2021 and going forward.
19. Josh Tomlin
I’m the creator of the Josh Tomlin fanclub, so of course he’s in my bullpen. What Tomlin means to this bullpen can’t be described by numbers. Not only is he a huge mentor to the rest of the guys in the bullpen, but he’s capable of filling whatever role you need him for.
20. Luke Jackson
I was honestly a little surprised when the Braves decided not to non-tender Jackson after a rough 2020. But as I’ve said numerous times, you can’t put much stock in 2020 numbers — good or bad. And even Jackson’s numbers suggest he was a bit unlucky in 2020. Still not sold on him being in the bullpen all season, but I think he’ll at least be there to start.
21. Victor Arano
If healthy, I think there is a very good chance Arano makes the Opening Day roster. He’s already on the 40-man, which gives him a leg up on non-roster invitees like Carl Edwards Jr. and Nate Jones. And when he’s been healthy, he’s been really good in the big leagues.
