Atlanta Braves Gold Glove candidates against the rest part 3: Outfielders
By Fred Owens
Center field is a tight race
Braves fans watch and admire Inciarte’s defense every game. He performed at the same superb level as last season, but this year his competition for the Gold Glove got tougher due to the arrival of Lorenzo Cain.
Here are the metrics for both.
Center Field | FB Points | SDI | UZR | DRS | IE | DEF | FRAA | Rtot | OAA |
Lorenzo Cain | 114 | 8.1 | 8.7 | 20 | 1 | 10.7 | 2.2 | 20 | 19 |
Ender Inciarte | 99 | 7.3 | 7.2 | 17 | 9 | 9.5 | 9.3 | 17 | 31 |
Michael A. Taylor | 32 | 6.8 | 3.4 | 5 | 12 | 4.8 | 8.6 | 10 | 10 |
Billy Hamilton | 69 | 6.5 | 5.9 | 4 | 14 | 8.1 | 4.2 | 4 | 16 |
Albert Almora | 28 | 6.3 | 1.9 | 6 | 15 | 3.4 | 2.3 | 9 | 12 |
Starling Marte | 2 | 4.7 | 3.2 | 1 | 21 | 5.2 | 6.9 | 1 | 10 |
Manuel Margot | 15 | 3.1 | 1.0 | 14 | 11 | 2.9 | -4.9 | 9 | 12 |
Gorkys Hernandez | 0 | 1.7 | -1.5 | 0 | 17 | -2.3 | -0.4 | 2 | 3 |
Lewis Brinson | 0 | 0.7 | -3.1 | 7 | 20 | -1.5 | 3.0 | 3 | 2 |
Enrique Hernandez |
0 | 0.6 | 0.7 | -1 | 3 | 1.4 | -2.7 | 2 | 6 |
* Hernandez played CF just 47% of his games in center and handled only 150 chances.
Cain and Inciarte are close statistically, but I expect Cain to win.
