4. Zeroing In

Teheran against Patrick Corbin is a pitching matchup that makes Braves-Diamondbacks worth watching, and the game on August 15 in Atlanta will be compelling television indeed, not to mention something for pace-of-play hawks to hang their hats on. Of course, it’s easy to move a game along quickly when nobody is scoring any runs, and Atlanta and Arizona will manage to play a 17-inning game that ends before midnight when Andrelton Simmons completes the cycle by hitting a walkoff homer, giving Atlanta a 1-0 victory.

5. Tank Stalled

The Braves, who were some upgrades at the plate away from being wild-card contenders – and given the nature of playoff baseball, World Series contenders – decided instead to tear down. The problem was that they didn’t finish the job. Atlanta will go 73-89, marking the club’s first back-to-back losing seasons since the seven year run from 1984-90.
